A third time house of representative’s member, Hon. Nnenna Ukeje, who was last Thursday defeated in a free and fair primary election for the Bende PDP House of the representative ticket has begun a desperate move to discredit and challenge the result of the election after she had accepted defeat, the winner has alleged.
In a statement sent to PUO REPORTS yesterday, the Chima Anyaso Media organization accused Hon. Ukeje of desperately playing to the gallery by insinuating that she was compelled to accept defeat when all video evidenceshowed that there was a free and fair election and in her speech to the media she congratulated the winner.
The statement reads “we wish to bring to the attention of the leadership of our great party, PDP, our chairman, Chief Uche Secondus and the National Working Committee, about a barefaced attempt by Hon. NNENA ELENDU UKEJE to arm-twistthe party and its machinery into withholding the already affirmed victory of Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, the authentic winner of the Bende Federal House of representative’s primary election held on the 4th of October 2018 at the Bende Local Government Headquarters”.
“It has come to our notice that Hon. Ukeje is making moves to undermine the out of that election in which she was defeated. The information available to use suggests that Hon. Ukeje has started contacting lawyers to see how this victory by Dr. Chima Anyaso can be challenged in court after the election has already been concluded. The plan is to force the court to set aside the result of that election”.
“We are also aware that she has started putting immense pressure on some persons within the party’s NWC with a view to pleading on the grounds of 35% affirmative action for women participation. This is not only ridiculous but equally shameful that, having served 12 years in the House, Hon. Ukeje still considers herself part of the number to make up for women representatives. Our question to this is whether it is about number or performance. Bende people are not satisfied with her performance hence they elected Dr. Chima Anyaso”.
“We are therefore calling on the party leadership to resist the temptation as currently being presented by Hon. Ukeje, but to honor the results of the election. After the election, Hon. Ukeje addressed the media and in her speech she conceded defeat and congratulated the winner, Dr. Chima Desmond Anyaso, hear her speak“as far as I am concerned, it was a clear democratic process, the people saw theneed for change and they voted a candidate of their choice, am a beneficiary of the democracy process, I have served my people for 12 years and people probably saw there is need for change and it was a free and fair process which I commend the Abia PDP for”
