The heaps of refuse in the streets and environs of Abia state no doubt has raised much concern from Abians for some times now. They attributed this to continued nonchalance of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency ASEPA.

A moment ago, one of the aids of the General Manager of ASEPA, Ibe Vincent Ogbonnaya took to his facebook page to explain the reason behind the non performance of ASEPA following worries of Abians to the ugly scenario, and the recent summon of the General Manager and Deputy General Manager by the Abia State House of Assembly to ascertain the remote cause of their non performance.

In a release by Ibe Ogbonnaya in his facebook page, he attributed the agency’s non performance to poor funding. According to him, under the regime of Rt. Hon Cosmos Ndukwe, the agency was receiving a whooping of 200 million naira and above as monthly subvention, whiles the regime of Hon Martins Apugo, it came to about 66/70 million naira monthly after carving out ASEPA Aba zone. But under Hon Victor Apugo it started revolving around 22 million till date.

Hon. Martins Apugo, former ASEPA General Manager, and All Progressive Congress APC candidate for House of Representatives, Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency at the 2019 election in a release personally signed by him said the figures of monthly subvention he was receiving during his regime released by Ibe Vincent Ogbonnaya was false.

He said after ASEPA Aba zone was carved out he was receiving 22 million naira not 66/70 million from the administration of former Governor T.A Orji, and also the period he served under the administration of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu. According to him, 22 million naira Hon Victor Apugo claimed he is receiving was the same amount he was receiving as ASEPA GM after Aba zone was carved out.

He regretted why today’s ASEPA should be trading on falsehoods, and also blaming their non performance to paucity of funds and asked them to bury their face in shame and stop spreading false information.
