The Governor of Bayelsa State, the Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson, has dissolved the Governing Council of the Bayelsa State Polytechnic, Aleibiri.

The Commissioner for Education, Hon (Dr) Jonathan Obuebite, said in a statement on Thursday that the Governor has also reconstituted a new governing Council for the Institution.

The statement listed the new membership of the Governing Council to include : D.I.G Mike Zuokumor as Chairman while Messrs Teibiri Reiner, Dr. Kimisuotei Iyekoroghe Sintei, Chief Dauyesei Ekeni and Mr. Welson Salmon are members.

The Commissioner said that the Governor took the decision to dissolve and reconstitute the board because of the imperative to reposition the school for greater productivity and efficiency to actualize the founding objectives of the institution.

He said that “the Governor urged the chairman and members of the new board to take advantage of this position of responsibility to make the desired contribution to the development of the education sector.

The Commissioner who said that the governor was not pleased that the institution had not moved to its permanent site at Aleibiri assured that the first matriculation would take place there before the end of the year.

He said that the establishment of the institution in Aleibiri was government’s idea which it was ready to pursue to a logical conclusion.

He quoted the governor as having urged the people of Aleibiri to ignore rumours inspired by mischief makers noting that government had already directed the construction of the facilities needed by the institution for the matriculation.

He noted also that the school has just been given certification by the National Board For Technical Education (NBTE) and accreditation given to Five (5) programmes.

He said that the governor commended the former Governing Council for their efforts and wished them well in their future endeavors.
