Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has restated the commitment of his administration to the provision of basic welfare facilities to officers and men of the various security agencies operating in the state to motivate them in their work of keeping our people safe.

The Governor stated this yesterday while inspecting the progress of work at the New Headquarters building of the Zone 9 of the Nigeria Police being constructed by the State Government.

The Governor who was met on arrival at the site by the State Police Commissioner, Mr Ene Okon said that the building should be ready for hand over in the next few weeks.

He inspected the various units of the building and told the contractor to speed up with the work. He made certain structural observations and asked the contractor to correct them immediately.

He also expressed concern at the potential flooding of the premises and ordered the contractor to take immediate steps to ensure proper channeling of storm water from the premises. He also charged the contractor to speed up work on the borehole and ensure its immediate connection to the premises where piping has been completed.
The Governor said he would return there in 10 days by which time he expects that work would have almost been completed.

The site representative of the contractor told the Governor that they have started moving in furniture and other electrical fittings and appliances into the building, while painting and final work on the surroundings of the premises will commence in a matter of days.

The State Commissioner of Police, Ene Okon, who represented the Assistant Inspector General in charge of Zone 9 Umuahia, thanked the Governor for his intervention. He told the Governor that the State was almost on the verge of losing the Headquarters of the Command to a neighboring state on account of accommodation challenges but that the quick intervention of the Governor saved the situation and asked the contractor to ensure that the dreams of the Governor was realized within schedule.

It would be recalled that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu also visited the headquarters of the 14 Brigade of the Nigerian Army at Ohafia two days ago where he made specific commitments to help upgrade certain critical infrastructure within the premises of the Brigade.

Several patrol vehicles whose cost run into several hundreds of millions of Naira were donated to all security agencies in the State few weeks ago.

All of these interventions, the Governor stated, are designed to show the commitment of the State Government towards ensuring the safety of lives and property of the people of Abia State.
