The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has maintained that it will use the permanent voter cards (PVCs) in the forthcoming general elections, in spite of challengesThis is even as the National President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Augustine Alegeh, has called on Nigerians to shun any form of political violence at the polls.
Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Rivers State, Dame Gesila Khan, stated this during voters’ sensitization exercise carried out by the NBA, Isiokpo branch in conjunction with INEC in Emohua Local Government Area of the state.
In her speech, the State REC, who was represented by Head of Department, Voters’ Education and Publicity of INEC, Achibie Godfrey, stated that in view of the lapses associated with the collection of PVCs, the commission would not abandon the use of PVCs for the elections.
She restated the preparedness of the commission to conduct credible polls and appealed to the political parties as well as the electorate to play by the rules to achieve a peaceful exercise.
Meanwhile, the National President of NBA, Alegeh, has charged Nigerians to vote wisely in the elections.
Alegeh, who spoke at the voters’ sensitization programme through the Vice Chairman of NBA, Port Harcourt and member, Committee on Voters’ Education, Victor Frank-Briggs, expressed optimism that the electorate would not be victimised during the elections.
