Call him a comic actor, and you may be right. Popular actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, is one of the comic characters in the Nollywood industry. With a number of movies to his credit, the name, Mr. Ibu, stuck with him after going by the name in a movie he starred in.Some Nollywood fans see the 53-year-old as too comical to give himself a good treat, but few days ago, he bought himself the 2014 edition of BMW X6, which costs about N15m in the auto market.

BMW labels its 2014 X6 a sport activity coupe with styling that is indeed sleek and coupe-like. According to auto reviewers, there is no denying that the X6 handles remarkably well, and moves with authority, thanks to its turbocharged six- and eight-cylinder engines.

Practically designed for urban dwellers who prefer performance to off-road practicality, the 2014 X6 has much to offer in terms of handling, luxury and performance. It has the weight and height of an SUV and the smaller interior of a sporty car, resulting in a vehicle that blends the two in terms of performance and utility. The materials are top-notch and put together beautifully.

The X6 drives comfortably and its suspension does a great job of soaking up road imperfections.

Performance

The 2014 BMW X6 comes in two trims: xDrive35i and xDrive50i. The xDrive35i comes with a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine that produces 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque, while the xDrive50i has a 4.4-litre turbocharged V8 good for 400 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. The two engines are remarkably refined and deliver strong acceleration while the x50i is more powerful.

All-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission are standard on every X6. BMW estimates that the XDrive35i will go from zero to 60 miles per hour in 6.3 seconds while the XDrive50i will hit 60 mph in 5.2 seconds.

EPA-estimated fuel economy for the X6 35i stands at 17 miles per gallon in the city, 24mpg on the highway and 20mpg in combined driving, while that of X6 50i stands at 14mpg in the city, 21mpg on the highway and 17mpg in combined driving.

Features

The 2014 BMW X6 has standard seating for four people and an optional middle rear seat increases capacity to five.

The xDrive35i comes standard with 19-inch wheels, adaptive xenon headlights, fog lamps, auto-dimming mirrors, a sunroof, front and rear parking sensors, heated 10-way power front seats, driver memory settings and leather upholstery. The navigation system and upgraded seats standard on xDrive50i are optional on the xDrive35i.

Electronics features include the iDrive interface, Bluetooth phone connectivity and BMW’s iDrive infotainment system, BMW Assist emergency communications and a 10-speaker/optional 16-speaker sound system. Others include CD player, HD radio, an auxiliary audio jack and an iPod/USB audio interface.

Available on both trim levels, the Premium package adds keyless ignition and entry and manual rear side sunshades. Opting for the Luxury Seating package offers ventilation and massaging for the multi-contour seats, while the technology package includes a head-up display, enhanced speed-sensitive steering and satellite radio.

Other stand-alone options include LED headlights, a lane-departure warning system, power soft-close doors, running boards (for easy entry into the car), adaptive cruise control, extended leather trim, a rear-seat entertainment system and the BMW Apps suite of Internet-based smart phone features.

Safety

Every 2014 BMW X6 comes with stability and traction control, antilock brakes, front side airbags and side curtain airbags, driver and passengers’ side head and rear head airbags, daytime running lights, child safety locks and auto-levelling headlights. Also standard is the BMW Assist emergency communications system, which provides automatic crash notification, stolen vehicle recovery and on-demand roadside assistance. Reviewers said the X6 has strong brakes and controlled handling.

Optional safety equipment include a lane-departure warning system and side-view, rear- and top-view parking cameras. In Edmunds brake testing, an X6 xDrive35i came to a stop from 60 miles per hour in 111 feet.

The good: Reviewers applauded its powerful and fuel-efficient engines, sporty handling, upscale interior with comfortable front seats and sufficient cargo capacity in spite of its hatchback.

The bad: Reviewers, however, complained about its limited backseat headroom, poor rear visibility due to its sloping roofline, cramped rear seats, and that its low, sloped rear roof restricts headroom and greatly decreases cargo room compared to other midsize crossover SUVs.
