Chief Tony Anenih, Chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT) of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Monday said the party was not bothered about the exit of the former President Olusegun Obasanjo, from it.
Anenih told State House Correspondents that the former president was free to leave the party and join any party of his choice, and that the PDP would not stop him.
Obasanjo had in a news conference in Abeokuta early on Monday, announced his disengagement from the PDP and politics generally. He said that he would remain a statesman locally and internationally.
Anenih said that as a Nigerian, Obasanjo had the right to leave any party and the right to join another party.
Asked if the party would miss the former president who is its former BOT chairman, he said ‘’why should we miss him?’’, adding it was also not a loss to leaders of the party.
Obasanjo had been accused by the Federal Government of making clandestine moves to thwart the general elections, and pushing for the constitution of Interim National Government. He was also alleged to be supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.
