An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded a 24-year-old man, Michael Oyejide, in custody for allegedly raping an 18-year-old lady, Morenike Ajayi, to death.
The magistrate, Mr Martins Akinyemi, ordered that the accused be remanded in the Ibara Prison.
The prosecutor, Moshood Hammed, said the accused, and one other at large, committed the alleged offence on January 8, 2015, in the Ijeja, Abeokuta area of Ogun State.
He said the accused got the victim drunk at a birthday party and later took her to his residence, where he and the friend raped her to death.
He said, “After the girl died, they pretended to be sympathisers and rushed her to a hospital where she was confirmed dead.
“The management of the hospital reported the case to the police which led to Oyejide’s arrest.”
The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections 516, 357 and 358 of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.
The accused, whose plea was not taken, is facing two counts.
The case was adjourned till June 5, 2015, pending advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
