Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ekiti, Mr. Sam Olumekun, has said that members of political parties will be allowed to witness distribution of sensitive and non-sensitive materials for all elections in the state.
He also said adequate preparations had been put in place to forestall diversion or hijacking of the materials by hoodlums.
Explaining this at a stakeholders’ meeting in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday, Olumekun said involving political parties in the distribution of these materials would prevent diversion of electoral process.
“The political parties are to prepare the list of representatives to witness the delivery, distribution and dispatch of sensitive election materials like ballot papers and election result sheets to their respective local government areas under security escort.
“This is to add to the credibility of the polls and to ensure transparency in the electoral process,” he stated.
The REC revealed that the ad hoc staff had been retrained for them to be able to respond to challenges during the elections.
Olumekun called on the security agencies to discharge their duties in the most professional ways for people to have confidence in them and to help the commission in achieving success in the conduct of the polls.
