The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State has condemned the protest by the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abuja, saying that the call for the redeployment of the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Rivers State, Mrs. Gesila Khan, was a deceit.
State Chairman of the party, Mr. Felix Obuah, in a statement by his media aide, described the protest as laughable and called on Nigerians not to be swayed by it.
He said that the protest lacked substance, adding that it was another plot by the APC to scuttle the April 11 elections in Rivers State, knowing that it stood no chance of winning the polls.
He added that the APC was looking for a REC who will play according to their biddings, having failed in their numerous attempts to persuade the present INEC boss in the state to write election results in favour of the APC.
The party disclosed that information available to it suggests that the APC was pressuring its President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, to persuade INEC Chairman, Attahiru Jega, to redeploy the Rivers INEC Commissioner, Gesilia Khan.
“This desperation shows that the APC is not on ground in Rivers State and is merely seeking a short cut to win the elections.
“We call on Rivers people to go about their normal businesses, bearing in mind that the end of their oppression in the hands of the APC-led government in Rivers State is but a few days to April 11, 2015,” he said.
The PDP challenged the APC to come out and face the electorate on Saturday to prove its popularity.
