A woman was caught yesterday during the governorship and state assembly elections in Arochukwu, Abia State, with a food cooler allegedly stuffed with ballot papers.
In her attempt to avoid being arrested, she said the cooler contained food meant for one of the party agents. But upon examination, it was discovered that the cooler contained ballot papers.
The suspect’s arrest came on the heels of allegations of existence of fake result sheets and ballot papers in some polling units in the area.
Similarly, voting was also marred by failure of card readers in Abiriba, Nkporo and many wards in Ohafia. Reports showed that information relating to the last presidential and National Assembly elections could not be erased by the card readers. The technical hitches made it impossible for accreditation to take place, as card readers rejected PVCs, showing warning signals of double voting.
Consequently, the election in the affected areas has been rescheduled for today.
