A 70-year-old woman, Zenab Alabi, has been arrested by the Kwara State Police Command for allegedly kidnapping a three-year-old girl, Fatiah Mustapha.
A relative of the girl’s mother, Mrs. Maryam Abdulganiyu, said Mustapha got missing on March 25, 2015.She stated that the victim had been living with her parents at old Shao Garage, Ilorin before she was stolen.
According to her, the victim’s father approached a cleric at a popular mountain prayer known as Ori-Oke at the Basin area.
She added that the grandfather of the girl, Mallam Isa, also went to the Ori-Oke, but surprisingly found the girl with the septuagenarian, who was also there.
She said Zenab initially claimed that the victim was her grandchild, but later said she found her wandering in a lonely place.
The old woman was said to have started using the victim for alms collection in the metropolis.
Abdulganiyu said Zenab refused to release the girl to Isa.
She stated that the old woman’s resistance prompted Isa to invite the police
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ajayi Okesanmi, confirmed Zenab’s arrest on Sunday.
He said, “The suspect is still with us. The girl has been released to her parents.”
