A 30-year-old man, Paul Nwokobia, alleged to have bathed another with substance suspected to be acid, was on Friday brought before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.
Nwokobia, a factory worker, who resides at No. 17 Okejide Street, Ejigbo, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, unlawfully causing grievous harm and use of dangerous substance.
Another man, Charles Orji, 20, was also arraigned with Nwokobia on a charge of conspiracy.
The suspects, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Maria Dauda, told the court that the accused and others at large committed the offences on June 3 at about 8.30 p.m. at Lawanson Bus stop, Itire.
She said that the accused poured the substance on the face of one Rosemary Nnaife in an attempt to take revenge on her.
Dauda said that the offences contravened sections 228, 243 and 409 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
The Magistrate, Mrs B. Folarin-Williams, granted Nwokobia bail in the sum of N100,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
She said one of the sureties must be a blood relation and must provide evidence of livelihood, while the other must be a community leader.
Folarin-Williams, however, granted Orji bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case to September 23 for trial
