Finally, the Okrika siblings have been betrayed by Barr. Nyesom Wike as the controversial governor of Rivers state ensured the emergence of Godswill Akpabio as the minority leader of the Senate. Though an older Senator, George Sekibo, the preferred choice of former First Lady,
Patience Jonathan was said to have been more qualified for the position but was betrayed by Wike who is said to be wary of allowing anyone close to Patience Jonathan from occupying any sensitive or powerful position. It would be recalled that another protégé of the former first lady, Evans Bipi was also sidelined by Wike during the appointment of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly.
Wike who was expected to have thrown his weight behind Sekibo who happens to be part of the group that hijacked power from the APC, rather, he was said to have played a key role in the emergence of Akpabio.
Sources also say the governor’s decision not to support his kinsman was because he is not convinced that Sekibo will win his case against Andrew Uchendu of the APC at the election tribunal.
This may be the beginning of the end of the Ijaws in Wike’s camp.
