A Federal High Court sitting in  Court 2,Port Harcourt, will today, hear the suit brought against some APC chieftains in Rivers state by the Nigeria Police.

The Nigeria Police, through, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad(SARS) and anti-kidnapping units led by a former Deputy Commisioner of Police in Rivers State Insp.John Amadi ,had shortly before the 2015 general elections, arrested prominent chieftains of the APC in the state and slammed charges of gun running, incitement, cultism and other spurious claims against them.

The chieftains to appear in court today include Hon.Bouchi Nsirim from Aluu,Ikwerre LGA,Hon.Charles Anyanwu, former Caretaker committee of Etche LGA,Hon.Ade Sam Wobo, elected vice chairman of Obio/Akpor LGA and Chief Onukem(a.k.a Dogwo) from Rumuodara in Obio/Akpor LGA.

The case which has suffered several adjournment is scheduled to be heard today.
Nigerians would recall that Rivers state was a hotbed of violence before, during and immediately after the general elections, with the Police leading what was obviously a crackdown on selected leaders of the then opposition parties.
Majority of these leaders were detained for months in solitary confinement without formal charges contrary to Constitutional provisions which forbids the detention of citizens beyond 48hrs without charges.
These cases once again, bring to the fore the obvious bias of state institutions and agencies during the 2015 general elections. It is also a sad reminder of how then ruling party, the PDP manipulated state institutions against innocent citizens for choosing to belong to other political parties.
