AN APPEAL FOR PEACE.
Dear fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters and friends of Rivers State, I send you special greetings. I recently reached a decision to add my voice to appeal for peace in our beloved State during this rerun election period and thereafter.
I am currently a serving Judge of the High Court, Rivers State Judiciary and not a politician. I therefore make this humble appeal in my capacity as the Wife of His Excellency, Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike and also the Mother of our dear Rivers State.
Most importantly, I call to everyone’s attention the fact that we are primarily Rivers men and women, before we registered support for any political party. All non indigenes that live here made a choice to contribute to the growth, development and wellbeing of Rivers State before becoming party supporters.
Therefore, we owe ourselves and the State a duty to maintain peace and security at this time and even beyond. You will easily agree with me that we are not violent lawbreakers who are unable to keep the peace and conduct ourselves lawfully while carrying out our civic responsibilities during elections. We must not allow ourselves to be defined as such.
We are a peace-loving people who desire peace to reign in our beloved State. We, as individuals, must not be blinded by selfish or partisan interests to allow ourselves to be embroiled in confrontations and altercations that will lead to violence and disruption of the electoral process. No blood must be shed on Rivers soil this election weekend and thereafter. Not anymore. Enough of the blood- letting.
Parents, guardians, Chiefs, Elders, clergyman and women, please caution your children, wards, subjects and people in your Churches and communities strongly against involvement in criminal activities on behalf of their political parties, as that runs against the grain of our peaceful values.
We should all pray and work hard towards a model Rivers State that is truly the Treasure Base of the Nation in all spheres – academic performance, industrial growth, natural resources, clean environment, hospitality, human development, rich cultural heritage, peace, safety, security, dedication to duty, team spirit, etc.
That is the Rivers State that will experience rapid growth and progress in years to come, as the haven of foreign investors and the proud home of our children.
