President Muhammadu Buhari has appealed to members of the National Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress, to continue to make sacrifices as his administration seeks to revive the nation’s economy.
Buhari said this while addressing members of the party’s NEC, at its formal NÉC meeting since the party assumed office on May 29, 2015.
According to the President, he was aware that a lot of them are under pressure from Nigerians especially with regards to the difficult economic situation.
He said, many Nigerians probably do not “Know that 27 out of our (36) states cannot pay basic salaries.”
The President expressed sadness that successive Peoples Democratic Party administrations since 1999, failed to make provisions for times like these considering the volatility of oil prices .
Buhari said his Foriegn travels were necessitated by the need to give a personal touch to making a case for the APC-led administration’s economic and other policies. “You need to present your economic policies personally to your partners and your neighbours personally.” He said.
On security, the President gave his administration a pass mark saying that the changes carried out by the administration especially the choice of new service chiefs, the procurement of soft and hardware and the boosting of the morale of troops has given the military a new sense of purpose.
Earlier, National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun in his address of welcome, urged all members of the party to come together and support the President and the party to deliver on its promises to Nigerians.
