While Nigerians groan and grumble over the continuous delay in assenting the budget, the executive says it’s still holding talks with the National Assembly to sort out grey areas in the document.
The Federal government is yet to give a specific date on when the 2016 budget would be passed into law.
The minister of budget and national planning Udo Udoma, while speaking after the Federal Executive Council meeting at the presidential villa, Abuja on Wednesday, stated that the federal government had set up a monitoring and evaluation mechanism to ensure that the budget is duly implemented.
He stated that the monitoring and evaluation mechanism is to ensure that the budget delivers all it’s promised. He also added that the mechanism was looked at,and approved by the Federal Executive Council.
“To make sure that 2017 budget is done on time, a timetable was approved for the 2017 budget. In addition, council noted the report of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group which, in partnership with the National planning Commission, organised an economic summit last year and made various recommendations. These recommendations were presented and noted. “
