The 2019 Vice Presidential ambition of the Rivers State Governor Barr Nyesom Wike has contributed to disorganize and destabilize the Opposition Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) as evidently seen on Saturday May 21 2016

Sacked National Chairman of the Party Senator Ali Modu Sheriff had promised Governor Nyesom Wike that he will pick him as his running mate if he (Wike) helps him to secure the Party’s Presidential Ticket

It was on this agreement that Governor Nyesom Wike against all odds put his weight behind Senator Ali Modu Sheriff against the wishes of the Founding Elders of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP),which made the Party to choose Portharcourt as the Venue of the 2016 National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party

While the Portharcourt was going on ,elders of the party under the aegis of Concerned PDP Stakeholders Forum, led by Prof Jerry Gana, held a parallel national convention in Abuja

Governor Nyesom Wike and  11 other  governors elected on the platform of the party on Friday, realised that he (Sheriff) had been talking to four of them, namely; Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Enugu State governor; Dave Umahi, Ebonyi State governor, Ayo Fayose, Ekiti State governor and Nyesom Wike, and had promised each of them that they would be his running mate in 2019 when he gets the party’s ticket to run the presidential election.

The governors were said to have at this point, asked Sheriff to excuse them, while they went into a meeting with former governors who were also in Port Harcourt for the convention. At the end of the meeting which lasted till 5am on Saturday, Sheriff was nowhere to be found but the meeting had resolved that he be removed as party chairman and a caretaker committee to be composed of representatives of the six geopolitical zones be formed, to oversee the affairs of the party for 90 days.

Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike while justifying his action and that of his colleagues explained that the party had to let Former Acting National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff go because his leadership was destabilising the party.

“This is destabilising the party and so we had to let him go. What is important is the party and not the individual. No sacrifice is too much for anyone to make as far as PDP is concerned “.he Stated
