The Political Tension In Ogoni Land,the Headquarters of the Rivers South East Senatorial District has tremendously increased following the July 30th Date fixed by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) to conclude the botched March 19th National and State Houses of Assembly Rerun in Rivers State.
The Battle appears to be between Governor Nyesom Wike and Sen Magnus Abe and not Olaka Wogu and Magnus Abe
Magnus Abe joined active Politics in 1999 and was elected into the Rivers State House of Assembly where he served as a Minority Leader of the Assembly.
Former Governor of Rivers State Dr Peter Odili appointed him his Commissioner of Information between 2003-2007.
In the administration of Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, While Magnus Abe served as the Secretary to Rivers State Government,the current Rivers State Governor Barr Nyesom Wike served as the Chief Of Staff to the State Government.
After the re-election of Governor Chibuike Amaechi in 2011,Magnus Abe was sent to the National Assembly as a Senator Representing Rivers South East Senatorial District while Nyesom Wike was recommended for a Ministerial Job,where he was appointed as the Minister Of State For Education.
Prior to the 2015 General Elections,there were insinuation in some quarters that the All Progressive Congress will present Magnus Abe as its Governorship Candidate,but that Insinuation was laid to rest when in November 2014,the Leadership of the All Progressive Congress presented Dr Dakuku Peterside as its Governorship Consensus Candidate.
The All Progressive Congress lost the Governorship seat of Rivers State to Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party during the 2015 Governorship election in a fierce election observers say was more of a “Gun Battle”
The Peoples Democratic Party cleared all the three Senatorial Seats in Rivers State during the March 28th 2015 National Assembly election.
But in December 2015,the Court Of Appeal ordered for a Fresh National and State Houses of Assembly in the state,thereby resurrecting opposition politicians of the All Progressive Congress in Rivers State.
Magnus Abe is seen as the Only Opposition Politician left in Rivers State and may be presented as a Governorship candidate by his Party in 2019.
The Rivers State Governor Barr Nyesom Wike is doing all he could to Stop the emergence of Magnus Abe over fears that Magnus may use Federal Might against him if he eventually emerge winner of the July 30th Rerun for Rivers South East Senatorial District
