The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to postpone the July 30th Scheduled National and State Assembly Rerun in Rivers State,sources at the Commissions headquarters confirmed the development to PUO REPORTS.
Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission had on the 20th of March 2016 suspended further actions on the March 19th National and State Assembly rerun elections in Rivers State on grounds of Violence.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Rivers State had on June said it would conclude the rerun election in the eight local government areas of the state between this June and the end of July.
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner Aniedi Ikoiwak who made the announcement at a stakeholders meeting in Port Harcourt had said the commission would fix a specific date for the conclusion of the rerun elections whenever the political parties, candidates and other relevant stakeholders agree for a peaceful conclusion of the rerun election.
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner also revealed that the results already collated from some polling units before the rerun elections were suspended have not been tampered by anybody.
But a source at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission told PUO REPORTS that the burning of the Commissions Office in Bori during the weekend is a clear pointer that the political gladiators in Rivers State are not ready for the election because according to him,actions were suspended on the March 19th Rerun results due to violence in the State.
The source also said that the commission may proceed with election in Rivers West and Rivers East Senatorial Districts
