Lagos—NATIONAL leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, yesterday, stressed the need for governments at all levels, to re-strategize if Nigeria is to get out of the current state of economic recession in the country.

This came as the Lagos State chapter of the APC noted that Lagos economy remains crucial to overcoming recession in the nation. Tinubu said this, yesterday, after observing the Eid el-Kabir prayer at the Dodan Barracks Praying Ground, Obalende, Lagos. The former governor of Lagos State opined that lack of solid foundation contributed to the present economic situation in the country.

Tinubu His words: “Without a good and solid foundation, we cannot achieve sustainable economic prosperity. We depended solely on one channel of revenue which used to give us $150 per barrel and suddenly it went down drastically to 30, catering for the same population. How do you share the 30 among various needs of the country?. “So, we need to re-strategize and re-plan. But that planning period is always a very difficult period in any family, organisation and nation.

That is what we are experiencing now, but it is for a better and stronger future. The political and economic stability we are enjoying in Lagos today is as a result of a solid foundation.” On her part, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Idiat Adebule, urged Nigerians to support the government in rebuilding a new nation by engaging themselves in productive activities that can help to fast track the process of building a viable economy.

She appealed to youths to desist from clandestine activities such as violence, kidnapping, pipeline vandalism, bombing and other vices capable of undermining the ongoing reform agenda of the Federal government. Also speaking, Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila appealed to Nigerians to be patient and not lose hope in the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration as it strives to reform the economy. Gbajabiamila said, “I urge us to be prayerful and by God’s grace we shall get better and stronger as a nation.” Lagos economy crucial to overcoming recession—Lagos APC  Also, the Lagos APC has said that the Lagos economy remains crucial to overcoming the current recession in the country.

In a statement by the State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Joe Igbokwe said: “We are happy that even in this period of recession, Governor Ambode is getting it right through hard work, discipline, focused leadership and power of constructive engagement. Today, Lagos has become the pride of Nigeria, a destination, and the fastest growing economy in West African sub-region. No wonder experts say Lagos economy is now more important to Nigeria than oil economy.”
