The Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has said reaching a truce with Senator Ali Modu Sherriff would expose those instigating the crisis in the party.
According to Makarfi, who spoke with The Guardian yesterday, both parties in the crisis have agreed to maintain peace to pave the way for reconciliation.
Makarfi, a former Governor of Kaduna State said he would not go into the details of those who were involved in the reconciliation.
According to him, what is important is that “We have agreed to form a joint committee that will look at all the issues, with a view to getting lasting solutions to all outstanding issues, so that we will move as one body.
“I raised a team that will meet with the team that Senator Ali Modu Sherriff and his people will present. That will be the body that will really discuss all issues and put a seal on all items.”
He explained that what he and Sherriff did was to agree that “Enough is enough, let us make peace. We represent people, we are not islands on our own.
So, we could not have sat down and just say that I take a particular position other than agree to make peace. The nitty gritty will be dealt with by the joint committee we are raising.”
Makarfi maintained that a resolution of the crisis would expose those behind the crisis. “If Sherriff agrees to make peace and some say they don’t agree, then it will become obvious to him and everybody that they don’t mean well.
“Anybody that behaves in such a pattern will be addressed in a similar manner. We may not all get what we want 100 percent, but if we get a 90 percent harmonisation and reconciliation, this is very much okay by us,” the PDP chief said.
He revealed that Sherriff has not presented anything for now. “That is the misconception people have. Nothing was presented either by Ali Modu Sherriff or by me. That could not have happened. This is why we have set up the joint committee, where issues will be tabled and resolved,” he said.
Exuding optimism, Makarfi added that world wars were fought and there were resolutions.
“Ours is a storm in a teacup. We should be optimistic and genuine PDP people are optimistic,” he said.
