INDIGENES of Ubima community in Ikwerre Local Govermment Area of Rivers State had expressed worry over the destruction of their farmlands by herdsmen and their cattle.
The current Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, hails from Ubima community.
The community also expressed gratitude to the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, for his efforts in fighting cultism in the area.
Ubima Council of Owhor Holders, Oha Anthony Umezuruike, said in Port Harcourt on Tuesday that herdsmen operating in the community were making life difficult for the people in the area.
Umezuruike made this remark when he visited the immediate past chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area and the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Samuel Nwanosike, even as he appealed to the state and local governments to come to the people’s aid.
“These Fulani herdsmen are destroying our farmlands. Our people can no longer enter their farms because of these people and their cows.
“We are appealing to the Rivers State Government and the local government to come to our aid to either send them away or show them where to graze,” he said.
On the restoration of peace in Ubima, he said, “We thank the current administration of Governor Nyesom Wike for ensuring that peace reigns in our community. We thank him for fighting cultism in Ubima.”
He, however, stated that the traditional rulers had resolved to support the PDP government in the state.
In his response, Nwanosike promised that the current administration in the state would continue to work towards the development of communities.
