Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has beckoned on President Muhammadu Buhari, to release the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu.

Soludo stated that the continued detention of the IPOB leader will make him a hero or a martyr.

He further added that the Biafra agitation will not seize, despite the long detention of Nnamdi Kanu.

Soludo urged the President to release Kanu else, the issue will escalate and be used against his campaign for re-election come 2019.

The Professor of Economics, cited an incident when the release of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu was used by Shehu Shagari to get support.

He bemoaned that the current administration has made the IPOB leader famous by his detention, adding that he was unknown until he was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS)

Meanwhile, a new IPOB splinter group, the Reformed Indigenous People of Biafra (RE-IPOB), accused Nnamdi Kanu of  using the Biafra struggle for self aggrandizement recently.
