The Peoples Democratic Party has said that the open acceptance of responsibility for the economic downturn in the country by the All Progressive Congress-led Federal Government has
vindicated its earlier position that the President Buhari Administration is clueless.
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State had on Monday in Abuja, said the APC government had taken the responsibility for the economic downturn of the country.
He stated this after the meeting of APC governors with President Muhammadu Buhari.
He had said, “We must take responsibility and we must never shift the responsibility to anybody. As APC, we are responsible for everything happening in Nigeria. We are responsible for the good, the bad, the ugly but we are promising Nigerians that we shall fix it.”
But the PDP in a statement by its spokesperson, Dayo Adeyeye, in Abuja on Tuesday, said that Okorocha’s declaration came after several months of bulk-passing and shifting of responsibilities to the previous PDP administration.
The statement said, “The open acceptance of responsibility regarding the economic misfortune caused by the All Progressive Congress-led Federal Government has once again, vindicated our earlier position that the Buhari Administration is clueless and lack focus in providing good governance to Nigerians.”
The PDP urged the APC to “also accept responsibility for deceiving Nigerians and the world at large that previous PDP administration achieved nothing in the economy, infrastructure and policies in 16 years”.
It added, “We hope that the recent acceptance by the party for the economic downturn in the Country
was not as a result of the International Monetary Fund affirmation that Nigeria’s economy is the largest in Africa based on previous achievements of the past PDP-led Administration.
“For the umpteenth time, let us reiterate that the PDP’s achievements cannot be wished away.”
It called on the Federal Government to declare an emergency on the economy and invite competent hands to help revive it.
