Rivers State Government House and security agencies involved in the Arms for Cash program are currently in verbal Wars with officials of government over the disappearance of the arms said to be recently surrendered by Cultists and Criminals in the State.
An inside source who pleaded anonymity revealed that there are suspicions that the arms displayed to the public were acquired under some controversial circumstances where the suppliers were paid a certain percentage of the actual cost for the sake of providing evidence that the Amnesty program is a success.
Trouble began when most of the arms and ammunition disappeared from the armoury in Government House, which further proved that they were hired and not surrendered.
Another set of security agents suspect that the arms may have been procured just for the sake of the forthcoming rerun election.
The issue is said to be causing tension which forced the Police boss to withdraw his men who were involved in the shambolic amnesty program and replace them with new ones.
That action of the CP did not go down well with the State Chief Executive who fears that the withdrawn Officers may spill the beans.
The question is: Where are the arms and ammunition alleged to have been recovered from the criminals? Is it right for such weapons of mass destruction to be kept inside the Civilian Circle?
