There were huge crowed at the Reigners Bible Church, located along Village Road, as a bishop, Akan Week, was being consecrated.

Eye witness says the church is being renovated because of the high number of people expected at the event.

“Pastor Akan Week was being consecrated today so the programme was holding inside the Church when suddenly, the whole building collapsed,” a witness told Premium Times.

“Many people are buried under the debris as emergency workers continue rescue exercise,” he said.

Governor Udom Emmanuel narrowly escaped death when the church building collapsed, according to Channels.

Many victims have been taken to various hospitals and mortuaries in the town.
