The Inspector General of police Mr Ibrahim Idris has filed four counts of Forgery against a former General Superintendent Of Assemblies Of God Nigeria Rev Paul Emeka before Justice Peter Afen of the FCT High Court Abuja
Rev Paul Emeka was alleged to have forged a University of Derby Professorial Certificate in 2005.
It could be recalled that the AGF had earlier applied to take over the matter which was pending before an Abuja Upper Area Court.
The AGF had predicated the application he moved through a lawyer in the Federal Ministry of Justice, Mrs. I. Charles Okoli, on section 106 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, ACJA, 2015 and section 174 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
The trial of Rev Paul Emeka followed a direct criminal complaint the Incorporated Trustees of the Assembles of God Nigeria filed against him pursuant to sections 88(1) and 90 of the ACJA.
In the fresh 4-count charge, with No CR/46/16, which was filed at the Abuja High Court, Rev Paul Emeka is being accused of forging a professorial certificate as well as engaging in violent conduct during a meeting by pastors of Assemblies Of God Nigeria at Assemblies Of God Church Wuse in 2014.
It read: “That you Rev. Paul Emeka (m) 56 years of Enugu State on or about the month of May 2005 at Enugu in Enugu State did forge a professorship certificate purported to have been issued by the University of Derby in Derbshire, England and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 364 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.
“That you Rev. Paul Emeka of Enugu State on or about 17th June, 2015, at Police Monitoring Unit, Abuja did claim to have obtained a professorship Certificate from University of Derby in Derbshire, England and paraded yourself as a Professor when how you came about the certificate you claimed to have gotten it from one Professor Okoro, whose surname and whereabouts is unknown, you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 179 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.
“That you Rev. Paul Emeka of Enugu State on or about 6th day of May, 2014 employed the services of thugs, invaded and disrupted Assemblies of God Church Wuse, Abuja pastors’ meeting venue, harassed and threatened them not to hold nor converge for such meeting any longer or else none of them shall escape the venue unhurt or alive and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 396 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.”
“That You Rev Paul Emeka ‘m’ 56yrs,of Enugu State,on or about 17th June ,2015,at Police Monitoring Unit,Abuja was found to in possession of forged Professorship Certificate purportedly issued by University of Derby in Derbyshire,England and when questioned as to how you came about the said certificate,you claimed to have gotten it from one Professor Okoro whose Surname and whereabouts is unknown,you thereby committed an offence Contrary to Section 368 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.
The charge, obtained by our correspondent, was signed by one Saidat Musa, and Francis Irabor of the Legal /Prosecution Section, FCIID, Abuja.
PUO REPORTS Exclusively gathered that the case came up last Tuesday 24th January 2017 with the two Police Prosecutors Saidat Musa and Raymond Akhaine in Court.
Justice Peter Afen ordered the Police to serve Rev Paul Emeka the Court Papers and arraign him before the Court.
