Man jailed for selling 20-year-old girl

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons and other related matters, has secured the conviction of a 37-years-old man, Ikechukwu Nwabuike.

Nwabuike was sentenced to seven years imprisonment by a Federal High Court in Asaba.
In the suit number FHC/ASB/19c/2016, the presiding judge; Justice A.O. Faji also fined the accused one million naira.
He said the accused was found guilty of abduction in line with Section 13(2)(b) of the NAPTIP Act, exporting a person for prostitution contrary to Section 14 (b).
Nwabuike was also found guilty of organising foreign travels that promotes prostitution despite Section 18 of the Act and slave dealing contravening Section 21 of the Act.
A statement by the head, Public Enlightenment Unit, Benin Zonal Command of NAPTIP, Mr. Nduka Nwanwenne, said the victim, a 20-year-old girl was taken to Cote-d’ Ivoire and sold to one Vivian.
The lady was said to have introduced her to prostitution for four months before the trafficker was apprehended by the Benin Zonal Command of NAPTIP which covers Edo and Delta states.
The Zonal Commander, Odita Ebenezer, said the conviction was on the heels of recent conviction of three traffickers in the state in 2016.
He said human traffickers have no hiding place and advised them to take up other meaningful and legitimate ventures instead of engaging in trafficking young girls for prostitution.
