Members of staff of the Peoples Democratic Party at its national headquarters in Abuja have refused to resume work despite threat to relieve them of their duties.
National Chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, had issued an ultimatum to the workers, asking them to resume work or they would be replaced.
The workers had chosen to swim or sink with the sacked National Caretaker Committee of the party under the leadership of Senator Ahmed Makarfi.
Even when the Court of Appeal siting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, in its judgement recognised Sheriff as the national chairman of the party, the workers in unison, pledged their loyalty to the Makarfi group.
They said that they would continue to align with the sacked caretaker committee until the determination of the appeal filed by the group against the appeal court judgment at the Supreme Court.
Some of the workers, who spoke with our correspondent in Abuja on Friday, insisted that they would remain with the Makarfi group.
They said that the threat by Sheriff to sack them would not sway them to shift their loyalty and that, the decision not to resume at the party’s national headquarters was a collective one.
An assistant director in one of the offices said, “We won’t go to Wadata despite the pressure and the threat to sack us.
“We know we are passing through trying period as we are being owed salaries and allowances. But there’s no guaranty that we would be paid if we resume at the party’s national headquarters.
“We are indeed losing a lot by not being there, but since we have taken the decision, we want to remain where we are now until the Supreme Court delivers the final judgment.”
