The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State has called for the resignation of the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.
Spokesman of the PDP, Samuel Wonosike made the call while speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt.
Wonosike said the party resolved to request for the resignation of Amaechi because of what they described as the incompetence of the minister.
He said Rivers state was yet to benefit anything from Amaechi’s ministerial position since 2015.
The PDP alleged that the Minister of Transportation intended to replicate his activities as Governor of Rivers state with the the alleged planned concession of the Nigerian Ports Authority.
According to Wanosike, “Nigerians, we have been following the activities of men in government. I am a Rivers man and by the Constitution, I should have a representation in the place of the Minister.
“The minister of Transportation, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, is representing me. Having looked at all his activities, I have come to the conclusion that he has failed and should resigned.
“He has shown lack of expertise to manage the resources at his disposal and has. In everything that pertains to his ministry, he has virtually done nothing.
“From all the activities of the Rotimi Amaechi, he has shown that he cannot managed the resources at his disposal as a minister.
“I want to draw the attention of the Nigerian public that just recently, the Nigerian Ports Authority is going to be sold to a private concern. With this, many Nigerians will lose their jobs.
“Nigerians are losing their jobs in thousands on a daily basis. The same way he Amaechi sold some of the infrastructure belonging to the state; that is what he wants to do now.
“You can agree with me that all promises made by Amaechi as a Grade ‘A’ minister has not been fulfilled. Having assessed this situation, Honourable Rotimi Amaechi should honourably resign so that we can have a Nigerian, who can deliver on promises.”
