The Federal Government has moved further to actualize the promise made by Vice President Yemi Osibanjo to support the provision of uninterruptible power supply to Ariaria market area of Aba in Abia State.
The intervention which is spearheaded by Rural Electrification Agency (REA) is aimed at growing MSMEs in the state with emphasis on supporting Made In Aba brands to grow.
Earlier today, the Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of REA, Mrs. Damilola Ogumbiyi, arrived Abia State and paid a courtesy visit to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu at the Governor’s lodge in Aba.
She informed the Governor that the proposed power solution for Ariaria market area will run on natural gas with 1000 shops at the market used in test running the system before expanding to include the whole market.
Expressing delight at the development, Governor Ikpeazu appealed for early realization of the project which, according to him, will help drive economic growth in Abia state and Nigeria.
Governor Ikpeazu reiterated his belief that Aba holds the key to unlocking the economic potentials of Abia State and Nigeria while noting that the traders, shoe makers and others doing business at Ariaria are excited to have steady power supply to drive their businesses.
According to him, “power is an important resource and enabler to drive economic growth and my administration will continue to seek partnerships that will ensure that our local manufacturers have access to steady power supply”.
Governor Ikpeazu pledged his administration’s support to REA to ensure that the project is realized on time and thanked the Federal Government for supporting the growth of MSMEs in Abia State.
