Stakeholders of the All Progressive Congress(APC) in Khana has urged the Senator Representing Rivers South East Senatorial District in the National Assembly Senator Magnus Abe to declare his intention and run for the Governorship seat of Rivers State come 2019.
The Ogoni APC stakeholders, Khana chapter, held an all embracing meeting in Bori, the traditional headquarters of the people of Ogoni in Nigeria to, among other issues, discuss the political and economic interest of Rivers people from the perspective of the Khana people.
In a communique issued at the end of the meeting, the Party Stakeholders are vowed to purchase the nomination form for Senator Magnus Abe and advised the State Working Commitee of the APC to be impartial in their decision.
“As partners, populous in electoral capacity, we are appealing to all neighbours in Rivers State to join us collectively as we ask that an Ogoni son be considered for governorship of Rivers State in 2019”.
“This position becomes more important based on the following: Ogonis have not held such offices as Chief Judge, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Deputy Governor and Governor of Rivers State. Ogonis are one of the most populated ethnic groups in the State from the Rivers South-East Senatorial District who are yet to produce a governor since its creation”.
The Khana meeting resolved as follows:
(a) That an Ogoni son be given the opportunity for the governorship ticket of Rivers APC in 2019.
(b) That Distinguished Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, an Ogoni son, should present himself in this capacity.
(c) The Khana meeting appreciates the fact that there are numerous Ogoni sons and daughters who are eminently qualified, but the political investment of Distinguished Senator Magnus Ngei Abe communicates a competitive edge that makes his marketability more appealing.
(d) The Khana meeting strongly urge the State Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress to strive for independence, impartiality and inclusiveness, if the party must come out of the present low moral of members.
(e) Accordingly, the Khana meeting calls on Distinguished Senator Magnus Ngei Abe to present himself for the 2019 gubernatorial election using the platform of the All Progressives Congress, as he clearly has the support and approval of a vast majority of the Khana people.
