President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the immediate medical treatment of former Vice-President, Mr Alex Ekwueme, outside the country.
A statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu said the approval followed a brief the President received on Friday over the health condition of the former Vice-President.
It was learnt that the presidential support includes the immediate charter of an Air Ambulance for the emergency movement and the cost of treatment.
The President further prayed that God grants the elder statesman speedy recovery.
This comes after Punch Newspaper reported that he collapsed and was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit of Memfys Hospital in Enugu state.
According to the newspaper, the elder stateman collapsed on Saturday night at his residence in Independence Layout area of the state.
Reports also said that the State Governor, Mr Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, had considered an oversees treatment for him.
According to medical personnel at the Hospital, the governor broke down in tears on seeing Ekwueme at the ICU.
