Abia and Enugu States have been mandated to search for delimitation documents defining their interstate boundary points.
This is part of a 10 Point Communiqué Presented at the end of the joint meeting of Official of Abia / Enugu Interstate Boundary committee held at the Aguiyi Ironsi Conference Centre, Umuahia resolved that ( 4 ) Copies of the delimitation document Submitted to the National Boundary Commission ( NBC ) not later than 19th March, 2018 to be screened on 2nd April, 2018 in Abuja.
The Communiqué presented at the meeting by the representative of the Director General ( DG ) of National Boundary Commission, Alhaji Adamu Adaji said the composition of the screening and Authentication Committee and the joint field Team would be inaugurated at Agwu in Agwu Local government area of Enugu state in April 2018 under the supervision of the National Boundary Commission as Chairman and the Survey General of the Federation
The meeting further resolved that the field work shall commence from the Wester tripartite axis immediately thereafter for a period of (4) weeks , while adequate security shall be provided to the joint field team during the field exercise by both state government’s .
Further more, the federal government and the two state of Abia and Enugu governments shall provide adequate funding and logistics support to their representatives in the joint field team while the state governments , affected local government chairmen and their traditional rulers shall carry out enlightenment campaign in their areas, prior to and during the period of the field exercise and all to maintain the status quo till the boundaries were properly defined.
Earlier in their opening remarks, the Deputy Governor of Abia State , Sir Ude Oko Chukwu and his Enugu state counterpart , Mrs Cecilia Ezeilo who spoke through Igwe L.O.C Agubuzu noted the cultural affirmative of people of both states and stressed the need for its sustenance by defining and demarcating the boundaries as quickly as possible while pledging their cooperation and support.
