The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, has congratulated Adams Oshiomhole for emerging as the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Secondus wished the former Edo State Governor well in his new challenge, a statement signed by his media Adviser, Nike Abonyi, said on Monday.
Furthermore, the PDP chairman said he was hopeful that Oshiomhole’s new position will help to deepen democracy in the country.
“On behalf of my party, the main opposition PDP I wish to congratulate you and pray that democracy would gain a lot in your climbing to the exalted office of your party.
“May I assure you of the PDP’s readiness to provide robust and constructive criticism and hope that the environment would be made conducive for all democratic institutions to strive,” he said.
Mr Oshiomhole was affirmed as the National Chairman of the party unopposed during the convention that took place on Saturday, amidst tight security.
He was sworn in on Sunday by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.
Ahead of his inauguration, the National Working Committee and National Executive Committee of the party were dissolved to make way for the new leadership.
Oshiomhole replaces Mr John Odigie-Oyegun who became National Chairman in 2014 and led the party into the 2015 general elections.
