The Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the dissolution of its executive committee by the party’s national working committee (NWC).
In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Buhari Sulyman, the party said the purported dissolution of its executives at the ward, local government and state levels were not only outrightly unlawful but also null and void.
“The duly elected party structure in Kwara State cannot be overthrown or dissolved by an unlawful declaration from Abuja,” Sulyman said.
The party’s reaction comes 24 hours after the national leadership under its Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole dissolved the State Executive Committee.
Explaining the reason for the development, Oshiomhole said the committee also reviewed the actions of some of the leaders of the party that emerged from the above congress who participated in an open rally calling on the Senate President to decamp to the PDP.
But the state chapter of the ruling party is not pleased with the explanation as it believes that “despite the distraction from Abuja, the Ishola Balogun Fulani – led State Executive Committee (SEC), the party leadership in the 16 local government and 193 wards of Kwara state shall continue to discharge constitutional functions.”
The party also accused its National Chairman of losing his respect by undue interference in its activities.
“Considering the inglorious role played by Comrade Adams Oshiomole, he has lost the respect of the leadership and members of APC in the 16 local government areas and 193 wards of Kwara State.
“He has destroyed his human rights credentials. It is crystal clear that the emerging dictator is always willing to trample on the rights of other party members whenever his personal interest is involved,” Sulyman added.
The party also passed a vote of confidence on the State Executive Council led by the Ishola Balogun Fulani, vowing to challenge the dissolution in court.
