Intellectual property theft is a menace faced by several creatives, however, the issue does not seem to be taken very seriously in Nigeria -Embattled musician, Blackface seems to be facing the same issue with two on Nigeria’s biggest artistes, Banky W and Wizkid –
Blackface has revealed that he would let the court decide Blackface, a member of the defunct Plantashun Boiz music group is in the news again for what is gathered to be a copyright infringement case.
The embattled musician has threatened to sue one of Nigeria’s biggest artistes, Wizkid, and his former record label owner, Banky W for copyright infringement. Blackface alleged that the pair stole a line from one of his songs, and used it in one of their hit tracks titled Slow Whine in 2011, without giving him credit for it.
He revealed this on his Instagram page, and even expressed his shock that the same artistes guilty of intellectual property theft dared to sue him for N50m. He posted an audio on social media of the track he claimed Wizkid and Banky W stole and he also posted an audio of his own track, perhaps for fans to notice the similarities and judge
The former Plantashun Boiz member however promised to take the matter to court, and even posted picture evidence of his move.
Banky W and Wizkid have joined the growing list of music artistes accused by Blackface of copying other peoples works. It is no news that the singer has accused 2face Idibia of stealing the hit song African Queen, he also accused the now defunct Psquare group of being copycats, that they became popular by sampling other peoples songs.
