Odochi Orji sensitizes Abia women on gender participation in politics

Abia women have been urged to undertake active politics and to contest for political positions in thye state.

This call came from the immediate past Abia First Lady and wife of the Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Mercy Odochi Orji while addressing Peoples Democratic party, PDP and allied organizations’ woman leaders in the state, urging them to be steadfast with the party in the state.

Odochi Orji, while advising them not to jump from one party to another, sensitized them on the need to support and vote for all women aspirants and candidates  in the spirit of w2omnhood.

While advising Abia women to “try and contest” for elective political positions,  advised: “I want women to come out and vie, even from councillorship positions.

“Try to support fellow women and also challenge others in the political positions you want. Support also women who have been ion politics in their quest for new positions.

“If you cannot challenge the female incumbent, support her”, pointing out that if women leave the position, the men will take the positions.

Odochi Orji who is the founder of HannahMay Foundation, challenged Abia women to sensitize their fellow women from the ward to the local government level and preach to the rural people “like the Assemblies of God” people as the old one in the rural areas may not well informed about politics.

After exercising their voting rights anywhere, she advised women to “zoom in and zoom out” to ensure that the right thing is done, and urged female politicians to carry their fellow women and youths in the state along and to brief them occasionally on their political activities and happenings in politics in the state.

While describing PDP as the party top beat in the state, Mercy Odochi Orji drummed support for Sen. T. A. Orji, Hon. Chinedum Orji and Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu and His deputy, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu, stating in the spirit of equity, Ikpeazu should go again.

“You should come out en mass” to vote for PDP in all political elections, appealing that Ikpeazu should also be voted in with his deputy.

In their separate speeches, some women, including Nnenna Obewu Onwuka, Dame Amarachi Dede, Stella Igbokwe (PDP state woman leader) and Ngozi Oji (Ikwuano LGA chairman) extolled the virtues of Mercy Odochi Orji, thanking her on her favourable disposition on women and youths i8n the state.

They expressed the readiness of women in An. Orji, Chinedum Orhi and Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu, alongside the deputy governor, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu.

They reminded PDP female delegates on the need to work for dedicated PDP aspirants, recalling that the party has already given automatic ticket to Gov. Ikpeazu and Sen. Orji.
