The Senator representing Kaduna Central District, Shehu Sani, has on his Twitter page condemned the raid on Daily Trust regional office in Maiduguri, Borno State, and the head office in Abuja by armed soldiers last Sunday.
Broadcast and print media widely reported that the soldiers shut the gate of it’s Maiduguri regional office, and the Abuja office after arresting the two editorial staff on sight at the time of the raid.
The lawmaker in a reaction commended the soldiers for their service to Nigeria, but described the siege as an act of ‘dictatorship’.
His tweet read, “We appreciate the service and sacrifice of our troops on the front line. However, the siege on the Daily Trust and the arrest of Journalists is an affront on freedom, reminiscent of the era of dictatorship.
“Complains against the media should be presented to their Unions or Press Council”.
