Senator Representing Rivers South East Senatorial District at the National Assembly Senator Magnus Ngei Abe has reacted to the dissolution of the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission(NDDC) by President Muhammadu Buhari Yesterday.
Abe said the Removal of two Ogoni Sons at the Board and Appointing people from the Area of the Minister of Transportation Mr Chibuike Amaechi is among several injustices against Ogoni People.
”I received the news of the dissolution of the board of the NDDC with mixed feelings. First, let me thank the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces President Mohammadu Buhari for the privilege given to two prominent Rivers Sons, Mr Derek Lenyie Mene who served as Executive Director finance and Administration of the NDDC and Mr Iboroma Harry who served as the Rivers state commissioner on the board”.
”These fine gentlemen served the commission meritoriously and contributed immensely to the current achievements of the commission”.
”However, it is an open secret that the minister of transportation, the Rt. Hon Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi had long threatened to remove Mr Derek Mene from the commission for his principled stand on issues of Justice and fairness in Rivers politics, particularly as it affects the marginalization of the Rivers South East senatorial district in the leadership of the state, not coincidentally the only executive removed in the dissolution of the board is Mr Derek Mene and his position has now been given to Rivers east senatorial district, the home district of the minister and the Governor”.
”I thank the president, the minister and other leaders of the APC for the opportunity and privilege given to these noble sons of Rivers state particularly Mr Mene to serve in this capacity. I am particularly proud of Mr Mene, who stood his ground in the face of a vicious campaign of hate and calumny, threat, intimidation and deprivation. He refused to make enemies on instruction and remained open to everyone. Positions, money and power, will come and go but truth and honor are everlasting”.
Let me assure all lovers of justice in the APC that the struggle for fairness, equity, justice and respect for our members in the APC, is in no way affected by the dissolution of the NDDC board.
”Our struggle predates the present board of the NDDC and will outlive the dissolution of the board. No manner of strong arm tactics will compel us to give up the struggle, if anything, every act of injustice strengthens our resolve. Our struggle will continue until the God of justice speaks and every voice of oppression, injustice, and falsehood is silenced”.
To those members of our party who are considering leaving the APC, I urge you to be patient and prayerful for the crisis in the party is man made, our party will claim it’s rightful place.
There is the light of victory at the end of our tunnel, when the night will give way to a new and glorious dawn.
