Afreximbank: Another Nigerian named  Head of IT

The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has named another Nigerian, Olaleye Babatunde, as director of its Information Technology (IT) Department, the third in a week.

Mr Obi Emekekwue, Director and Global Head of Communications and Events Management in Afreximbank, said this in a statement on Friday in Lagos.

It would be recalled that on Monday, the bank appointed Humphrey Nwugo as Regional Chief Operating Officer for its Harare-based Southern Africa Regional Office.

Also on Wednesday, the bank named a Nigerian, Maureen Mba, as director for its Compliance Department.

Emekekwue said Babatunde would be responsible for leading Afreximbank’s strategy on information technology in support of the bank’s mandate and medium-term strategy.

He said Babatunde had headed the bank’s Information Technology Unit as a Senior Manager since February 2014 when he joined the bank.

He added that prior to that he was the Chief Information Officer/Deputy General Manager at Stanbic IBTC Bank, Nigeria.

Babatunde holds an MBA from the Lagos Business School in 2004.

He holds M.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Lagos in 1998 and a B.Sc., also in computer science, from the University of Ibadan in 1995.

Afreximbank is the foremost pan-African multilateral financial institution devoted to financing and promoting intra- and extra-African trade.

Afreximbank was established in October 1993 by African governments, African private and institutional investors and non-African investors.

Since 1994, it has approved more than $67 billion in credit facilities for African businesses, including $7.2 billion in 2018.

Afreximbank has a total asset of $11.9 billion as at Dec. 31, 2017, and is rated BBB+ (GCR), Baa1 (Moody’s), and BBB- (Fitch).
