Some convicted prostitutes have alleged that some policemen at Utako Police Station, Abuja, used pure water sachets as ‘protection’ when the uniformed men raped them during a sting operation meant to rid the Federal Capital Territory of prostitution.
Some of the ladies also said some of the policemen raped them without any form of protection.
Consequently, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command said it has set up a high-powered team to probe the allegations of sexual and physical assault levelled against its men at the Utako Police Station, Abuja, by the convicted prostitutes.
The Command spokesman, Gajere Danjuma, said stiff punishments will be meted out to the errant officers, assuring members of the public of the Police zero tolerance for disregard for human rights.
The ladies had accused unidentified policemen attached to the FCTA Joint Task Team comprising the Department of Development Control, Abuja Environment Protection Board and the Social Development Secretariat of raping them after their arrest.
The women, who were arrested for alleged prostitution at different hotels and night clubs in Abuja on April 27, alleged that the policemen released victims who gave them money.
They also said that some of the security officers who forcefully had sex with them did not use condom, while a few others reportedly used pure water sachet during the sexual assault in place of condom.
Danjuma disclosed in a statement on Friday that the Command viewed the allegations seriously and would investigate them.
He stated, “The Command, as a responsible corporate citizen, views the allegations seriously.
“Consequently, a high-powered team has been constituted to investigate the veracity of the allegation.
“In this regard, invitations have been sent out to relevant individuals that may assist in getting to the root of the matter.”
