The Councillor representing Igbo 1 Ward 3 in the Etche Legislative Assembly in Rivers State, Onwume Chetachi, who has been accused of raping a young lady in a hotel in Gwarimpa, Abuja has been suspended from legislative duties.

Leader of the Etche Legislative Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blankson Nwanyanwu, who disclosed this to Kristina Reports in a telephone chat today, said it was to help with ongoing investigation into the alleged rape issue against him.

“I have lifted the embargo to suspend him out of the house while the investigation is going on. Investigation is going on anyway because the police is involved and some other persons are involved. Investigation is going on. That is just my position for now,” stated the Councillor, who also represents Ozuzu/Elele Ward 12

Chetachi was accused by a lady who simply identified herself as Cumbae Uchendu of raping her sister (names withheld) in a hotel room in Gwarimpa, Abuja.

She further claimed that Chetachi offered her N50,000 which she rejected but when she involved the police, the lawmaker absconded from the hotel.

Nwanyanwu expressed doubts as to the veracity of the allegations but maintained notwithstanding his doubts the investigations will go on to unravel the truth about the alleged incident.

“The truth of the matter is that, one, I was not in Abuja. I didn’t go to Abuja. Two, you know human beings, you can’t predict anybody because as it stands now I am seeing it as blackmail. The pictures I am seeing on Facebook are showing me a different thing”.

“There is no picture that came out with when the event took place and the time I am seeing in what they posted is 1am. I wonder what somebody will be doing in somebody’s room if there was no agreement of that nature.”
