Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt has unveiled a training studio for students of Communication.
The Unveiling of the training studio was done by the Department of English and Communication Art of the university.
The vice-chancellor of the institution, Professor Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele, speaking after inspecting the facility, said that he was amazed by the achievement recorded by the department.
The vice-chancellor, who disclosed that he had been challenged by the action of the department, assured that management would take over the project to ensure that the studio is transformed into a campus radio station.
I have been challenged, and we must take it as a project, the VC assured.
He commended the leadership of the department for the initiative, and for being able to drive the project to the level it has reached, as he charged other departments to carry out self-help projects that would uplift the status of the university.
Earlier, the chairman of the radio project committee, Professor Kontein Trinya, had disclosed that the training studio was borne out of the need for a platform for practical sessions for students of communication.
He disclosed that the project was funded through levy from students and contribution by lecturers in the department, and appealed to the university management to assist in completing it.
Professor Trinya also appealed for the posting of some non-teaching staff to the studio to oversee activities that would commence in the place..
He lauded the VC for acknowledging the relevance of the studio and for his approval for the building of the facility.
He equally appreciated the support of the current head of department, Dr Emeka Ikechi, lecturers and members of the radio committee team, the department’s students’ association, the consultant, and the immediate past head of department, Dr (Mrs.) Ibiere Ken-Maduako, for the initiative.
Meanwhile, the Dean of Postgraduate School, Professor Daniel Ogum, who said that he was pleased to participate in the ceremony, described the training studio as another landmark achievement of Professor Ndimele’s administration.
He also noted that it would boost the competencies of the students of the department, and assured that the PG school would contribute towards the realization of a campus radio station in the university, as he made a cash donation on behalf of the PG school.
