The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) today, wednesday arraigned Mr Uyiekpen Giwa-Osagie, associate and son inlaw of Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.
Few weeks back, the anti graft agency had filed a three count charge against Giwa-Osagie at the Federal High Court in Lagos for allegedly laundering 2 million dollars in the build-up to 2019 general elections.
Erhunse Giwa-Osagie, who is said to be his brother was Also named in the charge.
The two defendants conspired between each other to make a cash payment of 2 million dollars on February 12, 2019, without going through a financial institution, EFCC alleged.
Contrary to Sections 18(a) and 1(a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2011 The offence and were liable to be punished under Section 16(2)(b) of the same Act.
The both men pleaded not guilty to the 3 counts charges and Justice Nicholas Oweibo also ordered the dua to be remanded in EFCC custody pending the hearing of their bail application tomorrow.
