Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has assured that his administration will at all times continue to support the efforts of Abia citizens, especially young people, who have shown tenacity and hard work in their areas of endeavor.
The Governor stated this at the Governor’s Lodge Aba when he formally received the reigning MISS ABIA, Miss Nwagbara Michelle Nwaonu who paid him a courtesy visit and to formally present to the Governor, the award she won as THE BEST NATIONAL COSTUME at the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria Beauty Pageant held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
The Governor congratulated the beauty Queen for making the state proud, stating that winning the award of the Best National Costume by wearing Made in Aba dresses is yet another vindication of his resolve to promote goods made in Aba and Abia. He assured the Biochemistry graduate of the Micheal Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike that the State Government will partner with her to execute her pet project which is an Awareness Campaign for A Cleaner Environment. He tasked her to set up Sanitation Clubs in Secondary Schools across the State and embark on periodic Street Campaigns on Environmental Sanitation.
Speaking earlier, Miss Abia, Michelle Nwagbara thanked the Governor for creating the Made in Aba awareness campaign which gave her the impetus to insist on using clothes made in Aba during the Beauty Competition. She informed the Governor that she plans to embark on a Campaign for greater awareness on environmental sanitation by encouraging the citizens to get more involved in taking care of their surroundings. She called the project YOU TOO and she plans to collaborate with the State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) and the private sector in this project.
The Queen was accompanied to the event by her mother, Mrs Nkechi Nwagbara and her manager, Standhope Jasper.
