The University of Uyo has banned the sale of handouts and compulsory sale of textbooks by lecturers and other staff of the University.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Enefiok Essien announced this today at the grand finale of a three-day orientation exercise organized for the newly admitted students.
Professor Essien, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, said staff of the University of Uyo are well paid and have no reason whatsoever to extort innocent children under the guise of textbooks.
He said the University will resist any attempt by lecturers to make life difficult for students, some of whom toil day and night to pay school fees.
The Vice Chancellor urged students to watch out for lecturers who either selling their textbooks directly or indirectly through class representatives.
