Suspected bandits have killed a family comprising of 16 members during an attack on a village in Kaduna State.
The incident which took place Tuesday in Bakali village of Fatika district in Giwa Local Government Area of the state.
The bandits were said to have invaded the predominantly Hausa community at about 4pm and started shooting sporadically.
While the villagers scampered for safety, the assailants set fire on houses, vehicles, motorcycles and farm products in the village.
A community leader told newsmen on Wednesday that the bandits who invaded the village in their number locked up 16 members of the same family in a room and set them on fire in the house.
He added that many of the villagers have fled their homes for fear of repeated attacks.
Police authorities in the state have also confirmed the incident.
Muhammed Jalige, the spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, however, said they have yet to ascertain the number of people killed in the attack.
Muhammed Jalige revealed that a team of policemen have been deployed to the area to ascertain how the incident occurred and restore calm in the area.
